What is Zumba?
Zumba® is a Latin-inspired dance fitness class with easy to follow moves. Using Merengue, Cumbia, Salsa, Samba, Belly Dance, Flamenco & Reggaeton this fitness class will get your heart pumping and your feet tapping!
What type of music is played?
Zumba combines uplifting Latin rhythms & International music to create an exciting & effective fitness program. We start with a 10 minute warm up usually to pop music then we do some fast dances followed by slower dances so you can recover and be ready to up the tempo again. We finish with a 5 minute cooldown and stretching.
Who can do Zumba?
Zumba is designed for everyone! Its for people of any age, fitness level, shape or size. Emphasis is on fun & when the class ends you realise how hard you have actually worked! We have participants from age 10 - 80 in our classes and we often have mothers and daughters dancing together!
Do men come to the class?
No, Zumba International Classes are for women only
What are the benefits of Zumba?
Classes incorporate aerobic exercise, muscular strength exercises & interval training where we work the heart and lungs. Because of these training techniques, participants will see results such as toned muscles, reduced body fat, improved balance and posture, reduced stress levels, increased flexibility & range of motion. Zumba is great for getting in shape and losing weight!
What do I wear to Zumba?
Wear comfortable clothes.As for shoes, wear athletic shoes that give you support or dance shoes. Also, bring plenty of water.
What can I expect when I come to Zumba?
The instructor will lead the class in easy, simple movements that are combinations of dance and fitness. The students just follow along; usually visual or verbal cues are given so that the class can listen to the music and immerse into the feel of the music.
What if I'm not co-ordinated and I can't dance and have 2 left feet?
Zumba uses a lot of repetition of steps from class to class. Be patient and try it out a few times. After a few classes you will know the basic steps to salsa, merengue, cha-cha, cumbia and all the rest. Most of all just have fun!
I haven’t done a dance fitness class before. Can I stil do Zumba?
Yes! Zumba International classes are for women of all ages and fitness levels.There is no right or wrong way to do Zumba. The steps are repeated many times to match the music so is easy to pick up.
I havent exercised for a long time? Can I still do Zumba?
Yes! Everyone puts their own intensity into the class and does as much or as little as they want to. Zumba can be done at different levels, low impact or high impact, small or big moves. All the steps and dances can be adapted .Many people start out at lower fitness levels either from injury or lack of exercise. They do whatever they can do during the class and then gradually add more. Zumba is not divided by levels of difficulty.
Everybody can do Zumba!
Do I need to use weights for Toning classes?
NO! You can do this class without weights and still benefit from the class.
How will Zumba benefit me?
Zumba is a total package: mind, body and spirit!
Physically you will burn calories, mentally you will relieve stress and forget your worries. Not to mention you will make new friends and you will learn how to dance! Anybody can jump in at any class and start brand new. New people start every week. Go on give it a try!!
